“No, please no! How? Why?” These and many other words and questions popped out of my mouth. My sense of protection and peace were shattered, as was my happy mood.
Despite my disbelief and other emotions, I quickly sprang into action. Several days and phone calls later, I was back in control of my own website. For added measure, I changed my password for every other account in my life and business (I’m hoping I can remember all the new passwords now!). Still, I felt violated, like someone had broken in and stolen something from me – probably because someone was trying to!
Throughout this ordeal, I stayed relatively calm and took it in stride. Yes it was unpleasant, but once I got over the initial shock, I survived.
I also learned a few things from this experience:
1. Always be prepared
2. Have a good support system in place in case of an emergency
3. Frequently monitor any site or online account
4. Be proactive
5. Check for viruses, bugs or other breaches often
These same principles apply to life. There are people in the world who are hurtful (let’s call these people the bugs, viruses and hackers), and at some point in life, you may feel as if you have been “hacked” by them. We can’t always prevent this from happening, but we can be prepared, proactive and put a good support system in place.
During my experience, I kept thinking “I have been hacked,” and every time I said that phrase, it was as if I gave myself permission to feel angry, hurt and, frankly, “hacked off.” I had to honor my emotions – then assess my situation, do something about it and work to get back my sense of peace and serenity.
I have a great support team who worked to help me through this ordeal, and I want to say THANK YOU to them! It is good to have such great help when it’s needed.
So, next time you feel you may have been hacked in life (either figuratively or literally), reach out to others and let your support system help you.
May your world be full of peace, serenity and happiness!
ps. If you ever hear me say “I have been hacked,” then you should back away and give me some time and space!
