What Are You Thankful For?
So many days pass, and how often do we take the time to look around and take stock of all that we have to be thankful for? Thanksgiving reminds us to do this, but we don’t have to wait for a holiday to count our blessings. We can do it every day this month. Or every day of the year.
November is a particularly thankful month for me. Not only because Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to be with family and friends, and eat and eat and eat… but it’s also my birthday month, the month two of my children were born, and my Dad’s birthday month. Besides lots of turkey, there are four opportunities to celebrate and eat cake. That’s a lot to be thankful for!
It seems as though November is one big celebration for my family. It’s a month full of so many blessings. Not only are there a lot of birthdays, but a chance for family gatherings – to simply be together. I love to spend time with my family, and with several of us living in different cities, we often go months between visits…but not in November!
I am so thankful for our time together. I love to sit back and enjoy the interaction of my family. We can still disagree at times, yet I love my family and all of the craziness it entails when we are together. One of my favorite things to do is watch my grown nieces and nephews when we gather – they joke around, play and act like children again!
So, this Thanksgiving when you are surrounded by family and/or friends, sit back and enjoy your time together. Take it all in. Be thankful you can be together and celebrate.
In our family, it’s a tradition that before we eat on Thanksgiving Day, we gather in a circle, hold hands, and everyone shares one thing they are thankful for. Some family members moan every year about this tradition, but we carry on, and I enjoy hearing the one thing each person is most thankful for. It says a lot about them and what is going on in their world.
So, this Thanksgiving, as you prepare to feast, ask yourself: “What am I thankful for?” In fact, go ahead and ask yourself this question every day in November…or every day of the year.
